Unwanted hair – no matter where it is located on the body – can make us self-conscious about how we look and what we are wearing.
That goes double during summertime when we are enjoying time outdoors, often wearing swimsuits.
There are plenty of ways to go about temporarily removing unwanted hair, but permanently removing it with lasers is gaining momentum.
About 633,000 laser hair removal procedures were performed by ASDS members last year – a 27 percent increase from 2013 and a 51 percent climb from 2012, according to the 2014 ASDS Survey on Dermatologic Procedures.
With a variety of lasers and light sources FDA-cleared for permanent hair reduction, most patients are seeing permanent hair removal while others do require maintenance treatments over time.
ASDS President George J. Hruza, MD, MBA, cautions that consumers looking into laser hair removal should be sure to find the right physician. If left in inexperienced hands, he said procedures can leads to burns, scars or skin discoloration.
“ASDS members have long been at the forefront of laser, light and energy-based treatments,” Hruza said. “We routinely perform laser hair removal procedures with excellent results.”
At University Dermatology, we have several years of experience performing laser hair removal treatments sucessfully with highly qualified and trained professionals.
