Acne extractions & injections

Acne Extractions:

Acne extraction may be the treatment of choice when other conservative treatments are only partially effective, or more commonly, in combination with standard acne regimens to speed the healing process and subsequently reduce the potential for acne scarring.  Although there are various self-treatment kits, acne extractions should only be performed by trained professionals.

Acne Injections:

Intra-lesional corticosteroid injections are used to treat deep pimples, papules, nodules or cysts by decreasing the amount of inflammation (and at times discomfort) associated with these deeper, persistent lesions.  A very dilute corticosteroid is injected directly into the blemish. Don’t worry, it’s a small needle! It’s quick, nearly painless and remarkably effective in a very short period of time.

Acne Treatments:

Acne treatments range from over-the-counter solutions to prescription medications and dermatologist-performed procedures such as chemical peel.  While over-the-counter solutions may help, prescription acne medications from University Dermatology can start showing results within 2-4 weeks and more importantly will help prevent future breakouts.

Prescription Acne Medication Include:

  • Topical Antibiotics
  • Topical Retinoids
  • Topical Anti-inflammatories
  • Oral Antibiotics
  • Oral Hormonal Medications
  • Accutane
